Special Weather Statement
“Special Weather Statement issued October 29 at 3:09PM EDT by NWS Upton NY”
The combination of dry fuels, gusty northwest winds 20 to 30 mph, and minimum relative humidity values near 40 percent will lead to an elevated risk of fire spread across southern Connecticut during the late morning and afternoon hours on Friday. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches, and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Any fires that ignite will have the potential to spread quickly. This forecast considers meteorological, fuel, and land conditions and has been developed in coordination with state fire and land management officials. For more information about wildfire danger and wildfire prevention, please visit the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection website at... https://portal.ct.gov/deep/forestry/forest-fire/fire-danger- weather-and-reporting.

The lowest relative humidity and strongest wind gusts are expected during the late morning to mid afternoon hours on Friday. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches, and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts.

River levels are shown against their usual, but not yet judged. A gauge’s usual here is its range of October monthly averages; the reading is the latest 15-minute value, which a passing rain or dry spell can carry outside that range. So no river gauge makes this county Unusual For Here until we compare each day with the same day’s history.

A gauge’s usual is its range of October monthly averages over its record (USGS).

Each line is the source's own fields, linked to the source. Unusual is this county against its own history, never against other counties. Bird flu detections are reported in our words with a link to USDA APHIS; its records are not reproduced. iNaturalist observations are shown only under CC0 or CC-BY, with the observer credited; others are counted. Observations with an obscured location are never placed on a county.
