Hydrologic Outlook
“Hydrologic Outlook issued October 28 at 3:46PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK”
ESFAFG Areas of concern are between Nome and Council, particularity streams and rivers draining the south aspects of the high elevation terrain of the Seward Peninsula. Rivers and streams in the Nome and Council area are already high following rainfall over the weekend and early this week. Around 0.25 to 0.50" of additional rain is expected by the end of the week which will keep water levels high. No flooding is expected but those along the rivers and streams should be vigilant of the high water that is expected through the end of the week.
National Weather Service · issued Oct 28, 3:46 PM AKDT · expires Oct 30, 7:00 AM AKDT · Issuer
  • Niukluk River Ab Melsing C At Council, AK: flow 12,900 ft³/s · above the highest October monthly average on record for this gauge (2,850 ft³/s) · U.S. Geological Survey · 1 h ago
  • Unalakleet River Ab Chiroskey River Near Unalakleet, AK: flow 2,010 ft³/s · within the usual October monthly average for this gauge · U.S. Geological Survey · 46 min ago
  • Gauge 15565700: water level 88.01 ft · not enough history for this gauge to say what is usual · U.S. Geological Survey · 46 min ago
  • Gauge 15580095: water level 13.51 ft · not enough history for this gauge to say what is usual · U.S. Geological Survey · 1 h ago

River levels are shown against their usual, but not yet judged. A gauge’s usual here is its range of October monthly averages; the reading is the latest 15-minute value, which a passing rain or dry spell can carry outside that range. So no river gauge makes this county Unusual For Here until we compare each day with the same day’s history.

A gauge’s usual is its range of October monthly averages over its record (USGS).
